“Keep Your Amazon Prime Video Viewing Ad-Free With Just an Extra $2.99 a Month!
Starting in January, Amazon Prime Video viewers will be paying an extra $2.99 each month if they want to avoid ads. The new policy will affect all subscribers using the ad-supported plan, the more affordable option among Prime Video’s two options.
The other plan, which costs $8.99 monthly, allows viewers to watch every movie or TV show without interruption. Some original content is also included with the ad-free plan. With the new ad-supported plan, viewers must put up $2.99 for the same privilege.
At this time, it is not clear exactly what type of ads viewers will be exposed to. Amazon has not yet detailed the exact plans for how ads will be integrated within Prime Video’s content.
Of course, while it’s understandable that Amazon would want to recoup some of the expenses related to providing Prime Video’s services, some viewers may be displeased with the move. After all, part of the draw of Amazon’s streaming service is being able to watch content without bit interruptions or ads.
It remains to be seen how this updated pricing structure will affect Amazon’s user base. Right now, the introduction of the extra fee might offer some more incentive for viewers to invest in the $8.99 plan if they can. Otherwise, viewers may have a much harder time enjoying the service without being interrupted by ads.
