“Tesla Sounds the Alarm: 120,000 Vehicle Recall Over Doors That Could Open Mid-Crash!
Tesla recently announced that it will be recalling more than 120,000 Model S and Model X vehicles due to a potential issue that could potentially cause the doors to open up unexpectedly in the event of a crash.
Model S and Model X vehicles produced between February 2016 and October 2016 have been identified as the vehicles affected. The issue is believed to have been caused by a faulty door latch mechanism, which could possibly fail to properly hold the door in a closed position if exposed to an extreme impact. Tesla has therefore ordered a recall of the affected vehicles worldwide, with instructions to replace the door latch mechanism.
Tesla urges customers to take the recall seriously and book an appointment as soon as possible. According to the company, any delays in servicing the affected vehicles may increase the risk of injury caused by door openings in cases of crashes.
The recall is not the first such problem Tesla has had to address. In 2017 the company had to recall all 23,000 of its Model X cars manufactured between late 2016 and early 2017 due to a potential defect in the vehicle’s second-row seats.
Tesla has faced criticism for not responding quicker to safety related problems. While it’s commendable that Tesla was able to identify and rectify this particular issue, the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer should still strive to respond more swiftly and take all safety issues more seriously.
