“Trump’s Sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, Leaves a Lasting Legacy at 86
Maryanne Trump Barry, a well-respected federal judge and the only sister of President Donald J. Trump, has passed away at the age of 86.
Judge Trump Barry served as a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 1999 to 2019, when she retired. Before that, she served on the U.S. District Court of New Jersey from 1983 to 1988.
Outside of her political career, Judge Trump Barry was an accomplished woman. She graduated from the Cornell University School of Law and received an LL.M. from Villanova University. Through her career, she also wrote many scholarly works, including her work on the Double Taxation of Corporate Dividend Income and a book about the late Supreme Court Justice, William J. Brennan, Jr.
As a federal judge, Judge Trump Barry was known for her firm but respectful demeanor, and she was known for her fairness. She was a mentor to many young lawyers and provided guidance to them on issues of legal ethics. Throughout her career, she was known for her understanding of the law and her compassionate sense of justice.
In her passing, the nation has lost a prominent, exceptional judicial figure, and her family has lost a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother. Judge Trump Barry will be missed by friends, family and colleagues, and her lifetime of service to the nation will be remembered for generations to come.
