SmackDown Smashes Back into USA Network with Billion Dollar Deal!
In a huge deal that is estimated to be worth at least 1.4 billion dollars, the WWE Network’s SmackDown is making its triumphant return to NBC Universal’s USA Network.
The show, which was previously aired on USA Network before moving to the SyFy network back in 2016, will be returning to its home on the USA Network. The show will make its grand return on October 4, 2019, airing every Friday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT. This new deal between WWE and NBC Universal will make Smackdown part of USA Network’s prime-time lineup for the next five years.
The deal is expected to bring in more than 1.4 billion in total rights package of rights fees, promotion, and production costs for a five-year period. This is the largest TV distribution agreement in WWE history.
It’s been reported that the WWE Network is branching out from its traditional fan base and hopes to attract viewers who are familiar yet unfamiliar with wrestling. To help draw more people to the network, Smackdown will be advertising live events and special WWE products to viewers on the USA Network. The WWE hopes that the combination of WWE Network and the USA Network will result in greater viewership and bring even more fans to the world of professional wrestling.
It is clear that this new deal between the WWE and NBC Universal is a major win for all those involved. Smackdown is rediscovering its home on the USA Network and the WWE is bringing in major content to the world of professional wrestling. This move should increase the ratings and popularity of the shows on the WWE Network, leading to greater revenue for both the WWE and NBC Universal.
